Responding to SJP's Bcc to me

My speculation on the character of the Obama Administration gave me a flashback on the economic hustlers and 'system' apologists I knew in college. They were a cynical bunch who didn't think twice about ripping-off someone, who were 'dumb enough' to be victims-no matter the adverse consequences of their victim-hood. Or those who, as apologist for working with 'the establishment', had a condescending attitude for those who be the collateral losers for the short-comings of the 'establishment solutions'.
It, also, reminds me of the 'winners and losers' or the 'those who don't make the grade' argument'.

That class of person, who were self-serving pragmatists, at best, and cynical operatives, more routinely, attracted and manipulated people who liked the association around the alpha-personality and front-runner persona. This just fed and vindicated the cynicism of these people. Thus, when we see the politics of today, we're seeing those 'pragmatists' who sold their soul long ago for the justification of the ends by what became these agnostic to amoral indifference to any earnestness of virtue of their declarations or posturings.

They may have the political label of 'Democrat' but they are the social rip-offs we knew 'back when'.

Hi Michelle,
Found "Crude" on Netflix, and it's in my queue. Don't know why, but I had never heard of either the movie or the event - doesn't surprise me though. Thanks for recommending it.
You mentioned Halliburton before. When I first heard that Halliburton was one of the three or four companies directly involved in the rig, I too thought of that immediately. When I researched it, faulty pouring of cement can indeed be a cause of a blow out. But, seeing as what fucking assholes BP are, it is probably mostly them to blame. 'Course, that's not to say that there isn't more blame to go around.
BTW, considering the piss-poor response, including by our government and Obama, (we would have lost WWII if all these guys had been in power), you have to wonder. You've got Adm. Thad Allen of the Coast Guard there showing absolute amazement at the slimy disgusting sludge out there (not to mention all the shit underwater). I heard him say how the Coast Guard wasn't prepared for this because they were expecting an Exxon Valdez black oil "sheen" type of situation. WTF?! If that's not what's down there and being explored for and pumped, then why the fuck prepare for a different situation. It turns out that not only are there different types of oil, but behavior of the oil is different when coming up a mile, and coming from incredible pressures - and having those fucking dispersants sprayed on them.
The whole thing sucks of lies and incompetence from BP, and incompetence and lack of a grasp on reality from Thad Allen, Obama, and Obama's advisors. As long as one drop of oil reaches wetlands or beaches, it is too much - and a lot more than that is happening. Yesterday some huge amount - that they had been watching for DAYS coming toward land - hit, coating thousands of birds, etc. I watch Rachel Maddow every night - she was down there and is very concerned about the lack of attention and activity toward preventing the oil from coming ashore, and cleanup when it does (which it shouldn't). Among other things, she was pointing out that so much of BP's vaunted "millions of feet" of boom is not being secured or maintained right - absorbant booms have to be replaced constantly, and some of the booms were actually on the other side of the oil - keeping the oil on the inside towards the land, not away from it.
Obama seems to think he is impressing us with all they are doing - well, I am not impressed at all. This sucks.

Filmmaker Joe Berlinger's provocative documentary explores the ongoing battle waged by 30,000 indigenous Ecuadorans and their lawyers against Chevron for dumping billions of gallons of toxic oil waste into the Amazon. Berlinger examines the environmental catastrophe -- dubbed the "Amazon Chernobyl" -- from all sides, following the drama as it moves from the contamination site to the courtroom and beyond, even landing on the cover of Vanity Fair.
