I'm all for communication efficiencies, but when efficiencies inhibit or retard expression, that's when I rant-and-rave. Language is signs and symbols-prose and poetic. The fast food of language are those terms (and mantras) that have become homilies, sacred cows which carry the implied imperative of obligatory acceptance and submission. One of my favorite pet peeves of this category is 'I'm just thankful to be alive and have a job!' Implying, that even with either, or, or both shitty working tasks or work supervisors, there is no tangible trade-off for wanting better beyond that servitude. Don't let me get started on what some would say is the compensation and redemption for acceptance of that servitude-religious faith and hope, along with charity for everything but one's own aspirations.

The language of homilies becomes an intellectual and emotional boundary that filters out questioning and challenging of those homilies. By doing thus the people end up using the apologetics and maxims of fatalism to the inviolable homily. Those maxims are utilized as quickly for reasons of logic as fast food is used for substantive meals. Thus the apologetics and maxims become the signs and symbols for the unassertive to back-down from any any mental expression of contradiction to those apologetics and maxims. We end up with a population of mental regurgitators of fallacies and myths derived from the submissiveness to those maxims and apologetics. You see it in the politics of progressive activism and dissent to conservative 'moderation'. You see it in the social relations where poor habits and bad behavior are given a generational pass because of 'the times'. People end up relating to the maxims and the homilies rather than to the empirical facts, which have become secondary to the forms derived from the maxims and homilies. The intellectual fatalism to forms of 'popular consensus' becomes the social expectation. If you're nice, you don't transgress those social taboos and use the accepted forms if you're going to seek to get along by going along.
In the meantime, the aggrandizers cynically opportunize on the intellectual timidity of deference given to those fallacious homilies and maxims in our vernacular communications.
